For what are you thankful?

Take a few moments to stop and thank God God for all of His blessings to you. Even if things in your life are difficult right now, the Lord is right there with you giving you the strength, grace, and mercy to persevere and walk through the situation.

As I paused earlier to list the things for which I am thankful, there were way to many to list here. Instead, I’ll tell you that I woke up bright and early this morning from a dream. I promise as I woke up I could smell my mom’s dressing cooking! And I heard her singing, as she often did.

So, I have been singing the same song of thanksgiving mom was singing in my dream, Thank You Lord for Saving My Soul, by Bessie & Seth Sykes.

If you know it, sing it along with me:

Chorus
Thank You Lord for saving my soul
Thank You Lord for making me whole
Thank You Lord for giving to me
Thy great salvation so rich and free

Verse 1
Some thank the Lord for friends and home
For mercies sure and sweet
But I would praise Him for His grace
In prayer I would repeat

Verse 2
Some thank Him for the flow’rs that grow
Some for the stars that shine
My heart is filled with joy and praise
Because I know He’s mine

Verse 3
I trust in Him from day to day
I prove His saving grace
I’ll sing this song of praise to Him
Until I see His face

Where would you and I be without God’s saving grace?

This song brings many Scripture passages to mind, but the one I have been meditating and contemplating this morning:

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:1-10 ESV
