Moms, With God, No “Do-Over” is Needed: Embracing a New Perspective in Christ

Earlier this week, I had ga heartfelt conversation with a mom who just turned 40. She has three children: a 15-year-old high daughter, a 12-year-old son, and an 8-year-old daughter. As our conversation continued, she began to open up about the mistakes she felt she had made as a mom. With a heavy heart, she said, “I wish I could push a button and have a ‘Do Over!’” Her words resonated deeply with me, and I felt compelled to share the essence of our conversation through this devotional.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (LSB)
When we come to Christ, we often think of it as starting over, wiping the slate clean. While it’s true that Christ forgives our sins, makes us a new creation, and offers us a fresh start, the transformation He brings is much deeper than just a “do-over.” It’s about gaining a new perspective, a new way of seeing Him, ourselves, and the world.
In Christ, we become a new creation. This doesn’t mean we erase our past or forget our experiences. Instead, it means we see them through the lens of God’s mercy, love, grace, forgiveness, redemption, and power. Our sins, failures, and mistakes are not just wiped away but are transformed into testimonies of God’s mercy, love, grace, forgiveness, redemption, and power. We begin to understand that our identity is not defined by our past but by our relationship with and identity in Christ.
This new perspective allows us to see our lives with hope and purpose. We realize that every moment, even the difficult ones, can be used by God for His glory. Our struggles become opportunities for growth, and the victories He gives become reasons to praise Him. We start to see God’s hand in every aspect of our lives, guiding us and shaping us into the people He created us to be.
Moms of all ages …
- Embrace Your New Identity: Recognize that you are a new creation in Christ. Your worth and identity are now rooted in Him, not in your past actions—sins, failures, and mistakes. This means asking God to forgive you of any sins you have committed as a parent, and to take away the guilt and shame that you may still be tightly hanging on to. Fully embrace His forgiveness and step into the freedom and joy that comes from knowing you are loved and forgiven by God.
- See Through God’s Eyes: Ask God to help you see your life and circumstances from His perspective. This can bring hope and purpose even while you are experiencing challenging times. When we view our lives through the lens of God’s mercy, love, grace, forgiveness, redemption, and power, we can find peace in the midst of chaos and trust in His plan, even when we don’t understand it.
- Share Your Story: Use your experiences to testify to God’s transforming power. God can use your story to inspire and encourage others. By sharing how God has worked in your life, you can help others see that they too can experience His mercy, love, grace, forgiveness, redemption, and power.
Lord, thank You for making me a new creation in Christ. Help me to see my life through Your eyes and to embrace the new perspective You have given me. May my testimony be a testament to Your mercy, love, grace, forgiveness, redemption, and power. Amen.
In Christ, we don’t need a do-over; we need a new perspective. Embrace the transformation He offers and see your life through His eyes, finding hope and purpose in every moment.
