The daily prayers I posted on social media Monday—Saturday were comprised of lyrics from the hymn, Song for the Nations, by Chris Christensen.
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:18-20 ESV)
We most often hear this hymn sung during missions conferences and focuses. The lyrics help renew our resolve to share the gospel with all nations. God’s command seems too large a task for anyone to accomplish on his or her own. Yet, when each Christ-follower take this command seriously in his or her life, the individual efforts are multiplied.
As we ready, study, memorize, contemplate and meditate upon God’s Word, we learn who God is and what He requires of us. That knowledge and understanding of God is the source of the light that shines in and through us (Matthew 5:14) as the things we do not only show who we are, but WHOSE we are.
James 1:22 gives us a hint for how we can make disciples as we are doers of the word, and not hearers only (ESV).
Join me in singing this prayer:
May we be a shining light to the nations,
A shining light to the peoples of the earth,
Till the whole world sees the glory of Your name,
May Your kingdom come on earth.
May we bring a word of hope to the nations,
A word of life to the peoples of the earth,
Till the whole world knows there’s salvation thro’ Your name,
May Your mercy flow thro’ us.
May we be a healing balm to the nations,
A healing balm to the peoples of the earth,
Till the whole world knows the power of Your name,
May Your healing flow thro’ us.
May we sing a song of joy to the nations,
A song of praise to the peoples of the earth,
Till the whole world rings with the praises of Your name,
May Your song be sung thro’ us.
May Your kingdom come to the nations,
Your will be done in the peoples of the earth,
Till the whole world knows that Jesus Christ is Lord.
May Your kingdom come on earth.
Are you a “shining light” bringing “a word of hope” that is a “healing balm” to the nations as you pray that God’s “kingdom would come to the nations?”
Ask God to enable His light to shine brightly in and through you.
