The daily prayers I posted on social media Tuesday—Friday were lyrics from the hymn, Sunshine in My Soul by Eliza E. Hewitt.
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
Matthew 22:6 reminds us that “The eye is the lamp of the body.” (ESV). Continuing in The Living Bible, we read, “If your eye is pure, there will be sunshine in your soul.”
As Christ-followers, we are able to shine because Christ gives us Light that illuminates us with the WORD, that brings repentance, and freedom from the bondage of sin, and the HOPE for eternity.
Because we have an intimate relationship with The Light of the World, we can KNOW Him.
And because we KNOW Him, we can have an unwavering, deep, abiding faith that is visible as we reflect the LIGHT and HOPE of JESUS in the desperation, chaos and darkness of our lives.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 ESV
If you are a Christ-follower, you WILL shine with the Light of Christ because you have His light—SUNLIGHT—in your soul.
Join me in singing this hymn of thanksgiving for the sunshine in our souls:
There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my life.
Refrain:
O there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
When the peaceful, happy moments roll;
When Jesus shows His smiling face,
There is sunshine in my soul.
There is music in my soul today,
A carol to my King;
And Jesus, listening, can hear
The songs I cannot sing.
There is music in my soul today,
For when the Lord is near
The dove of peace sings in my hear;
The flow’rs of grace appear.
There is gladness in my soul today,
And hope and love and peace,
For blessing which He gives me now,
For joys in future days.
Christ-followers are to get up and go out into the world radiant with the Light of God and the Light of the World so that we shine with the Light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all the world.
Ask the Lord to help you recognize His light that shines on us and that He will lead and enable us to live our lives in such a way that His light shines through us to the watching world.
