The Pastor Can Help … So Can You!

I stopped by the grocery store this morning before work. As I was choosing the fruit I wanted, I was so excited to overhear a lady invite another lady to her church for Easter services. The one who was invited replied, “God doesn’t want me in church. I’m not good enough.”

My heart sank as the first lady began pushing her cart away and said, “Well, I don’t know how to help you with that, but call my church (she gave church name) and the pastor can help you.”

An elderly lady and I stepped forward at the same time and began sharing how none of us are good enough for God, that it is only by His mercy and grace that we are saved. We shared the gospel with the lady who lives about a block from the church where the elderly lady is a member. She gave the elderly lady her telephone number and asked her to call her later and give her details about Sunday’s service.

It is NOT the job of the pastor ALONE to help people who are questioning, hurting, and suffering—all Christ-followers know the source of Hope and can help people. Remember, if you have been redeemed by the shed blood of Jesus Christ you have a testimony of God’s mercy and grace to share with everyone!

My dear Christ-following brothers and sisters, I realize that everyone isn’t as bold as some are to speak with strangers, but the same Holy Spirit resides in all Christ-followers and will help you share with others the only true source of Hope, Jesus Christ.

Granted, you may not always have experience with the issue someone raises with you, but if you are indeed a Christ-follower, you know the ONE Who has all the answers, and, you know where to seek answers: God’s Word.

If you need help learning to apply the truth of God’s Word to situations, ask the Lord to help you understand as you read, study, memorize, contemplate and meditate upon God’s Word, pray asking the Holy Spirit to teach you Who God is and how to share His Word with others. Hang out with a Christ-following friend one day and learn to interact with and share God’s Word and love as you watch them interact with others.

There are countless people in your church who would gladly help you think through situations. I am glad to give you some solid biblical resources to help you.

God’s command to make disciple-makers is clear. As you go about doing the things God called you to do in the places He called you to do them, make disciple-makers.

Easter is a time of the year that people seem more open to discussing Christ and biblical things. Ask the Lord to give you boldness to strike up conversations with people and invite them to your church’s Easter services.
