Cleanse Me

The daily prayers I posted on social media Tuesday—Friday were comprised of lyrics from the hymn, Cleanse Me, by J. Edwin Orr.

King David’s prayer in Psalm 139:23-24, is the foundation for this hymn.
Search me, O God, and know my heart!
    Try me and know my thoughts!
 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting!

Since King David knew God, he trusted God to examine his most private thoughts, and maybe unrecognized, thoughts to root out any sin. Likewise, it is essential that we pray asking God to search our hearts and convict us of our sin so that we can confess and repent of that sin and walk in the freedom of our forgiveness as we follow Him.

Acts 3:19-20 confirms this:
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.

Join me in singing this prayer:

Search me, O God, and know my heart today;
try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray.
See if there be some wicked way in me;
cleanse me from every sin and set me free.

I praise thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin;
fulfill thy word and make me pure within.
Fill me with fire where once I burned with shame;
grant my desire to magnify thy name.

Lord, take my life, and make it wholly thine;
fill my poor heart with thy great love divine.
Take all my will, my passion, self, and pride;
I now surrender, Lord – in me abide.

O Holy Spirit, revival comes from You;
Send a revival, my own heart renew.
Your Word declares You will supply our need;
For blessings now, O Lord, I humble plead.

Do you regularly ask God for search your heart and convict you of sin?

Ask God to cleanse you of your sin, then thank Him for that cleansing.
