Oh no! There are two of you!

Recently I was one of the participating authors in an online “Dive into Summer” party. Each author had one hour to interact with other authors and readers about ourselves and our books. The idea was to give readers an opportunity to get to know more about us.

In the weeks leading up to the event, the organizer kept getting another author and I mixed up. The same thing has happened numerous times in other groups in which we both are involved.

Why are people mixing up two authors? There are numerous reasons:

  • We’re both named Shirley.
  • We both have strong connections to Africa.
  • Our last names are VERY similar: Corder and Crowder.

I can’t remember which group both Shirleys were in a year or so ago, but, by God’s grace we got connected. At the time SA Shirley (South African Shirley, as we called her in this “Dive into Summer” party) was working on a devotional about Africa. We became fast friends! And I love her devotionals!

When I posted a review of Shirley Corder’s wonderful devotional, God in Africa: 90 Days in the Land of Majesty and Mystery, I had several friends ask why I didn’t let them know I’d written another book! Admittedly, I’m a little bias, but I love this devotional, as it so beautifully depicts my beloved Africa, while teaching biblical truth. Click here to read my review of God in Africa.

Come back the next three days as I will be highlighting and reviewing Shirley Corder’s three 7-Day Devotionals.

Meet my Friend Shirley Corder

Born in Scotland, Shirley grew up in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and has spent most of her life in South Africa. There she married the guy with gorgeous dark brown eyes who handed round the chocolate biscuits at youth group. They produced a daughter and two sons, all now married and serving the Lord, and Rob and Shirley have graduated to the role of grandparents, six times over.

In her previous life, Shirley Corder was a registered nurse and busy minister’s wife and mother. Following a confrontation with aggressive cancer in 1997, she turned her hobby of writing into a life-style, and has been writing for publication ever since. She has currently seven books published on Amazon.

In 2012, Revell/Baker in the States published her first book, Strength Renewed, Meditations for Your Journey through Breast Cancer . She has since written a number of non-fiction inspirational books.  See more under Published Work on the menu. Her mission is to write to inspire and encourage. This site is dedicated to all those in need of inspiration or encouragement.

Shirley currently lives in S.Africa’s “Windy City”, Port Elizabeth, in the beautiful Eastern Cape with Rob, her best friend and husband since 1967. Their home is only six-and-a-half minutes to the beach, door to sand. When the wind blows up from the sea, which it often does, it sounds as if the waves are outside the front door. One of Shirley’s favourite verses of Scripture is the one that saw her through her cancer treatment, and the key verse behind her book, Strength Renewed, Meditations for Your Journey through Breast Cancer.Isaiah 40:31: those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.

Shirley is contributing author to thirteen books to date including four Guideposts anthologies and some Chicken Soup books. She has published hundreds of devotional and inspirational articles internationally. She is also group director of CWOSA, an internet writers’ support group for Christian writers of Southern Africa.

Shirley and her husband of over 50 years live only two blocks from the sea in beautiful Port Elizabeth, South Africa. They have a daughter and two sons, all happily married, and are the proud grandmother to four boys and two girls, covering an age span of 21 years. When Shirley is not writing, she enjoys making greeting cards, plays several musical instruments, and is co-director of a local choir.
